Combining tense, challenging combat with a meticulously designed open world that begs to be explored, Elden Ring is undoubtedly a masterpiece. Chances are though, if you picked it up near launch, you’ve seen most of what it has to offer now. But worry not! If you want to sink your time into something similar, there are plenty of games available across multiple formats that are like Elden Ring.
We’ve put together a short list of games that will familiar to Elden Ring in numerous ways if players choose to delve into them. Some have challenging combat, some have worlds that reward those who take the time to explore, and some have similarly fantastical worlds. But one thing that they all have in common is that they’re all great. So, if you’re after games like Elden Ring, simply scroll down and you may find your next game to get lost in.

1. Dark Souls Remastered
- Available on: PS4, Xbox One, Switch & PC
Chances are if you’ve played and loved Elden Ring you’ve already played at least one of the Dark Souls games. But if not, Dark Souls Remastered is where you should jump in. Developed by the very same studio, Dark Souls Remastered and Elden Ring share much of the same DNA. The combat is very similar, as well as the fantasy setting and a whole lot more. The only real difference is that Dark Souls Remastered is considerably more linear. Still, you are given some freedom, and once you’re done with Dark Souls Remastered you can move onto its sequels, which are also very good.
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It’s safe to say that the third entry in The Witcher game series is the best, and also the most accessible. While the combat here is fast-paced and much less challenging than in Elden Ring, it’s still rewarding and highly enjoyable. But the real reason this game is on this list is because of its open world, which just begs to be explored. Go off the beaten path and you’ll find interesting side quests to undertake, and also come across fantastic loot. And something that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has that Elden Ring doesn’t is a gripping story full of choices to be made.
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Available on: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch & PC
With its huge, fantastical world filled with places for you to explore and treasure to find, as well as dragons and other monstrosities to be felled, it’s clear to see why The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is on our list of games to play if you like Elden Ring. And this is despite the fact that you play from a first-person viewpoint by default. This is a game that you can truly get lost in, spending hours upon hours just ignoring the main questline while you simply go where your heart desires. It’s just a shame that the combat isn’t anywhere near as enjoyable or rewarding.
4. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
- Available on: PS4, Xbox One, Switch & PC
It’s perhaps thanks to the success of series like The Elder Scrolls and Dark Souls that Dragon’s Dogma exists. And its enhanced version, Dark Arisen, is a good way to spend tens of hours of your time, especially if you’re after games like Elden Ring. After creating your character you’re let loose in an open world that’s terribly hostile, but you’re determined to fulfil your destiny. And thankfully you don’t have to make the journey alone. You can team up with other players if you like, or make use of computer-controlled allies called Pawns. Whichever you choose, you’re in for a lengthy and very enjoyable journey.
5. Ghost of Tsushima
- Available on PS4 & PS5
Okay, so the combat in Ghost of Tsushima is very different from that found in Elden Ring. You’ll also not find yourself engaging in battle with fantastical creatures. So, why’s it on this list? Because of its beautiful and vast open world, that’s why. Like Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima rewards you for taking time to explore every nook and cranny of its world, and it’s always a pleasure to do so thanks to it being so picturesque. There’s also the fact that you can summon your horse to your side at any point, making it quicker and easier to get about. If you’ve got a PlayStation console, consider this a must-play.
6. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Available on: PS4, Xbox One & PC
While it’s set in Middle-earth, you don’t need to be a Lord of the Rings fan to enjoy Shadow of Mordor. Like Ghost of Tsushima, the combat here is very different to that of Elden Ring, having more in common with the likes of Batman: Arkham Asylum. It can be challenging, though, and combined with an open world that’s fun to get around and rewarding to explore, Elden Ring fans are likely o get a kick out of it. The most notable thing about Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is its nemesis system, which has warriors growing in power based on your actions. And if you do find yourself loving Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, a sequel – Middle-earth: Shadow of War – is available which carries on the story.
7. Nioh
- Available on: PS4, PS5 & PC
With tense, challenging combat and additional systems no doubt inspired by the likes of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls, Nioh is a game that’s very easy to recommend to Elden Ring players looking for something new. The biggest difference here is that rather than having one open world to explore, Nioh instead sends players on missions on multiple smaller maps. But still, each one offers lots of room for those who love to explore, with plenty of secrets to be found. Nioh is great for those who like loot, too, with gear being colour-coded depending on the properties it has. A sequel is also available which adds powerful demonic abilities into the mix, making combat even more varied and enjoyable.
8. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- Available on: PS4, Xbox One & PC
While Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is from the same developer as Elden Ring, it’s perhaps the game that’s the furthest away from it on this list. But still, it has enough of the same qualities to make it appealing to those who are seeking more games like Elden Ring. It has tough as nails combat, for example, and an assortment of fantastical enemies that are fearsome to go up against. And while its world is nowhere near as open, it still has many secrets to be found if you’re prepared to take the time to explore. Just be warned that you’ll need to learn how to parry like a pro to get through it.
