Originally set to launch in October but then delayed to January 2024, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive’s Alone in the Dark has been delayed yet again.
In a press release, THQ Nordic has revealed that it has made the decision to move the release date for Alone in the Dark to March 20th, 2024. Not only will this give developer Pieces Interactive more time to work on the game, ensuring it lives up to the expectations of fans, but also alleviate some stress. After all, to make the January release date, the developer would have likely been required to put its employees through some crunch over the Christmas holidays, and who wants that?
Both a love letter to the original game in the series and a reboot of sorts, we’re rather looking forward to Alone in the Dark. And while another delay is disappointing, we’re happy that THQ Nordic is considering the mental health and well-being of the employees at Pieces Interactive. Besides, a couple of months extra wait isn’t that long, and it’s not as if there aren’t other releases in 2024 to fill in the gap.
We imagine THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive are keen for Alone in the Dark to do well, too. 2023 hasn’t been all that kind to the vast majority of games and developers, after all, with numerous studios experiencing layoffs and many games not meeting sales targets. With Hollywood talent including David Harbour and Jodie Comer involved, Alone in the Dark is poised to become one of 2024’s biggest hits, and this extra development time gives Pieces Interactive more of a chance of fulfilling its potential.
So, Alone in the Dark will now release on 20th March 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. That is providing it doesn’t get delayed again. Watch this space.
