Ever wanted to serve food at the end of the world? That’s the premise behind While We Wait Here, and this intriguingly apocalyptic cooking game is now set for an October release.
There’s more to While We Wait Here than just flipping burgers, but don’t expect a happy ending. From Bad Vices Games, the developer of Ravenous Devils, you play a diner cook who serves his customers while the apocalypse happens outside his window.
Unless there’s a major late-game twist, this isn’t a battle-to-save-the-world kind of game. As we discovered from the demo, which absolutely had us hooked, the world is coming to an end and you’re still there, working in your desert diner. After all, you own the diner, so where else are you going to go?
The trailer doesn’t specify why the world is ending, but it features a meteorite or two, so we guess it’s some cosmic event utterly beyond our control. Either way, your protagonist and their partner look determined to cling on till the every end, to offer some small degree of comfort to their customers.
Even in the apocalypse, there’s still something charming about an old-school American diner. And we’re morbidly curious to see how many of the customers will stick around. Will there be a point at which they just shrug, and walk out into the storm?

While We Wait Here is priced at $4.99, so don’t expect it to be a massive game, but we’re seriously looking forward to playing this. It arrives on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox this October 23rd. In the meantime, you can still download the demo from Steam.
