One of the best games of the year has just got even better. The 5th patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 has just landed, and as well as offering bug fixes and performance improvements, it also adds new modes and content.
For a start, playable epilogues have been introduced to the game, giving players more closure at the end of their adventure. Those who have already completed the game can enjoy these too, providing they have access to a save just before the final fight.
Just before the credits, players will find themselves in a camp six months later, and will be able to talk to their companions to find out what they’ve been up to and to say goodbye. This has taken a while for Larian to implement due the reactivity of the game, with over 3,000 lines of dialogue available.
For those just starting Baldur’s Gate 3 or thinking about starting a new playthrough, Patch 5 also introduces a new Honour Mode to the game. Think of this as essentially a Hardcore mode, not only making the game more difficult but also stopping you from save scumming.
On top of that, a new Legendary Action system is in play, with bosses able to catch you off-guard with new actions that will add more drama to battle. If you die you’ll be able to view statistics of your journey, and then either start again or carry on playing with Honour Mode disabled. For those who complete Honour Mode, the reward will be a Golden D20.
Other benefits of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 include a new Custom Mode which allows players to tweak the game to their preferences, as well as improvements to the game’s inventory system to make it more intuitive to use.
All in all, this is a pretty hefty patch, and so we recommend you check out the full patch notes via the Baldur’s Gate 3 website if you want to see everything that’s been introduced or changed.
