Fallout is hot stuff right now, and so Bethesda couldn’t have chosen a better time to release next-gen versions of Fallout 4 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Although are consoles that have been out for four years really next-gen? In any case, we’re not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. But PS Plus gamers might be left disappointed with the whole affair.
The next-gen versions of Fallout 4 offer pretty much everything you’d expect. Jump in on either PS5 or Xbox Series X/S and you’ll now find that there are both Performance and Quality presets, letting you choose between silky smooth 60fps performance or ultra-sharp 4K picture quality. There are also bug fixes and stability updates galore, though these are also being made available in the old PS4 and Xbox One versions. PC gamers don’t miss out either, and also gain widescreen and ultra-widescreen support.
A wealth of content that was previously Creation Club only is also included in the next-gen update, giving players access to things like Hellfire Power Armor, and a Tesla Cannon. In addition to some other extra goodies, such as Enclave Workshop Objects, playing Fallout 4 on next-gen consoles should be more enjoyable than ever before.
There’s just one thing that might ruin it for some players, though. While those who own the PS4 and Xbox One version of Fallout 4 can upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for free, it appears that’s not the case if you claimed the game via PS Plus. It is a bug? Will the upgrade eventually be made free for PS Plus users? We just don’t know. For now, though, unless you’ve actually bought a copy of Fallout 4 on PS4, physical or digital, you can’t get a free update.
Still, at £15.99 for the base game and £34.99 for the Game of the Year Edition which also includes all expansion pass content, at least the PS5 versions of Fallout 4 won’t break the bank.
