News FIFA meets Silent Hill in gruesome new football game FEAR FA 98 ByChris McMullen 6 July 2024
Ever wonder what FIFA would be like if you were kicking someone’s head around? After booting zombie bonces in the original Blood, we absolutely have. And now one developer is making it happen with FEAR FA 98, a PC game that mixes FIFA and Silent Hill.
It’s early days yet, but we’re absolutely on board with what we’ve seen. Think Speedball 2 and Mutant League Football were nasty? FEAR FA 98 is taking things to the next level, if its delightfully gruesome teaser is anything to go by.
As the title suggests, FEAR FA 98 resembles FIFA 98, but takes place on a gloomy and rusty Silent Hill-style pitch. The football is a severed head that ejects blood whenever it’s kicked, and the nets and markings are a vivid shade of red.
I am making a game that mixes FIFA 98 with Silent Hill. You use your enemies' heads as the ball, you can use knives, and you can summon demons. I believe it is the first football and survival horror game. can you help me with the name?? pic.twitter.com/mKd1e2IB5k

But that’s not all. Developer Jacob Jazz tweeted that the full version would contain knives, summonable demons and more. It’s not quite the “first football and survival horror game”, that honour goes to game jam entry Football Horror. But it’s the first to take the concept and really run with it.
We’re especially interested to see how its developer handles balancing the game. They’ve yet to confirm if this’ll have a single-player mode or not, but it could be a struggle to keep things fair in game where you can summon entities from beyond the veil. And can you also win by killing all your opponent’s players, complete with “There was a team here. They’re gone now.” message?

While FEAR FA 98 is still very much in the works, Jacob Jazz is working on a full-on trailer, to be released in the coming weeks. We’ve got our fingers crossed it’ll show off some of the game’s more outrageous strategies. In the meantime, you can follow Jacob Jazz on Twitter and check out their other games on Steam.
