If you’re thinking about jumping into American Arcadia, you’re about to have a whale of a time: this is an excellent adventure game with a gripping story. But you might be wondering how long it will take you to beat it.
Split across 27 “scenes”, American Arcadia tells the story of Trevor and Angela. Trevor’s a resident of the made-up world of Arcadia, where he’s been a star of a reality TV show all his life – without ever knowing. He’s never met Angela, but she’s the one to reveal the truth to him and ultimately to break him out into the real world. You’ll play as both Trevor and Angela over the course of the game, with their sections taking very different forms.
How long it will take you to beat American Arcadia will ultimately depend on how easily you manage to solve its puzzles. There’s nothing too taxing here, but you might get stumped occasionally. There’s a couple of particularly tricky platforming sections, too, particularly those that ask you to exercise a bit of stealth. If stealth isn’t your strong point, you might find yourself reloading certain checkpoints time and time again.
Ultimately, it’s going to take you between six and eight hours to complete American Arcadia. You might do it a little quicker if you blast through all of its challenges. But take your time and allow yourself plenty of thinking space, and it’ll be closer to eight hours before you see the credits roll.
However long it takes you, though, you can be sure of one thing: you’re going to have a great time playing American Arcadia.
