Once you’ve befriended a dinosaur out in the wild in Paleo Pines, you need to assign it a pen back on your farm. Here’s what you need to know.
A dinosaur won’t be automatically assigned a pen in Paleo Pines: it’s entirely up to you where they live. It means you have complete control over each dinosaur’s habitat, and you can change them at any time. The key to choosing a pen for your dinosaur? Your flute! Believe it or not, that little musical instrument is the way to get your dinos to do what you want.
Before you can assign a dinosaur to a pen in Paleo Pines, you need to get it to follow you. First, pull out your flute by opening your inventory (Y/triangle). Select your flute with A/X, then press A/X again to use your flute. Three red notes gets a dinosaur’s attention, so press the left trigger three times. If it doesn’t work, make sure you’re stood close enough to a dinosaur, directly facing it.
Next, you need to play three yellow notes to ask the dinosaur to follow you. That’s the right trigger three times. So now, wherever you go, your dinosaur will be right behind you. (It’s worth noting that if you’ve just befriended a dinosaur from the wild, it should already be following you, so you can skip this step.)
So: with a dinosaur following you, walk into the pen you want to assign them. You’ll see your flute prompts at the bottom of the screen change: there’s now a new one – ‘this is your home’. It’s three blue notes, so press your left shoulder button three times. That’s it: your dinosaur now knows which pen is theirs, and will make themselves at home.
Of course, make sure the pen is suitable for them: they’ll need food, a bed and enough space. If it’s not suitable, they’ll be unhappy – and might leave.
If a dinosaur already has a pen, you can easily reassign them by following the steps above and walking them into a new pen.
