Do you need help opening the first locked chest you come across in Withering Rooms? Here’s where to find the solution.
Early on in Withering Rooms, you’ll be told that you need to open a chest before you can continue. The chest contains a key, you see, which opens up the next room you need to go in. But the chest is locked with a combination, and to figure out its solution, you’ll have to locate the clue — then solve the riddle.
Since the locations of rooms and objects in Withering Rooms are randomly generated, exactly where the chest appears for you will vary. For us, it was in the room we wake up in, but it might not be. No matter where it is, however, its clue will be nearby. You’re looking for a picture on a wall which shows a riddle. For us, it was right next to the chest.
The riddle is called ‘Verona’ and shows a picture of people in a boat followed by a passage of text. The text contains a riddle which you’ll need to solve. You can read it below:
To get the combination, we need to count up how many lawyers, bishops and philosophers remain in Verona. Here’s how to find the solution and open the chest in Withering Rooms:
- There are 5 philosophers, but 3 shot themselves, so 2 philosophers remain.
- Every philosopher (2) sliced up a bishop. There were 5 bishops, but 3 remain.
- There are 8 lawyers, but 3 hanged themselves, so there are 5 lawyers remaining
- We go in the same order laid out at the beginning of the riddle — lawyers, bishops and philosophers — so the combination is 5-3-2.
Head to the locked chest and enter the combination. Voila: you can now access it and get the key within in order to continue.
