We’re not sure if it’s a shift in how Xbox Game Pass is going to operate going forward, but we only have three games coming to the service in the first half of August — the same as the second half of July. They’re good games, at least, but when we’re used to seeing lists of eight to ten games (or more), it’s a little disconcerting.
There’s one day one release and two older titles, but all are excellent. The first game that Game Pass subscribers have to look forward to is Creatures of Ava, a brand new game that lands on the service today. We reviewed Creatures of Ava earlier this week, calling it “an excellent adventure” and a “genuinely pleasant surprise”. If you like relaxing adventures set in beautiful environments, this is one for you. It’s available on PC, cloud and Xbox Series X/S — sorry, Xbox One players.
Coming tomorrow is a classic: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be available on PC, cloud and Xbox One and Series X/S. It bundles together the first three Crash Bandicoot games — you know, from PS One — all fully remade and enhanced, and looking beautiful as ever. This is platforming at its finest, and if you somehow haven’t played these yet, you really ought to be jumping in.
Finally, Mafia: Definitive Edition arrives on Xbox One, Series X/S, PC and cloud on 13th August. It’s another remake, with Mafia originally releasing in 2002. But this 2020 re-release is nothing short of fantastic, as we said in our review. It’s a third-person shooter that’s rich in story and beautifully cinematic. Even if you’re not that interested in 1930s American history, it’s still really worth your time.
Games leaving Xbox Game Pass on 15th August
Three games are arriving on Game Pass in the first half of August, but four are leaving (tut, tut). You’ve got until 15th August to jump into the following titles:
- Airborne Kingdoms
- Offworld Trading Company
- Shadow Warrior 3
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
