The role of Shadow has been revealed for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, and it’s none other than Keanu Reeves.
The announcement comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which has received the news from multiple sources. Everyone’s favourite Hollywood star, known for his role in John Wick and, of course, Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, will be taking on the role of Sonic’s acquaintance, Shadow the Hedgehog. The black and red erinaceidae is set to play a key part in the third Sonic movie alongside Sonic and Tails.
Keanu Reeves will be in good company. He’ll be joining Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, all of whom are reprising their roles from previous entries in the series.
The news comes just a week after SEGA announced the Year of Shadow, a celebration of all things Shadow the Hedgehog. And what better way to celebrate him than giving him the voice of Keanu Reeves?
We’re yet to receive an official announcement from Paramount Pictures or SEGA, but with a full trailer for the movie still to be revealed, we imagine it’ll be coming in hot. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to land in cinemas later this year on 20th December.
