Hideo Kojima may have parted company with Konami, but the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake’s producer would happily work with him again, describing it as “the dream”.

That’s not the company’s official stance, but, as reported by VGC, current Metal Gear producer Noriaki Okamura (who is working on the remake) is absolutely open to a collab with Hideo Kojima, the series’ original creator. The Kojima comment came during a 20 minute livestream, promoting the remake, known as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The stream was in Japanese but subtitles were provided, so it’s well worth a watch. There aren’t any massive revelations but there were a few interesting tidbits. For example, the game uses the original voice-overs, but lines which reference the original controls have been re-recorded. For actors who have passed on, Konami has used parts of the original recordings, apparently as an alternative to recreating their voices with AI.

The stream also reveals that Virtuos, a global studio which specialises in assisting other developers with their games, is helping with Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater. Virtuos has worked on a wealth of titles including Dead Island 2, Mortal Kombat 1 and more.

But at the end of the day, will Noriaki Okamura get his wish? Could Konami and Kojima kiss and make up, maybe for Metal Gear Solid 6? It seems unlikely. Not only does Kojima have his own projects, it seems like Konami is being a little weird about him.

How weird? Their ongoing Metal Gear Solid Legacy retrospective, currently on Episode 2, fails to mention him. At all. Yes, you read that right, a deep dive into Metal Gear Solid doesn’t so much as name check the series’ creator, director and co-writer. Konami may have some convoluted legal reasons for his omission, but it’s not a good look.

Konami has yet to reveal just when Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, will be dropping. They’re still aiming for a 2024 release, so sit tight and don’t get rid of those cardboard boxes just yet.
