As if Subnautica wasn’t scary enough, Full Fathom takes the formula and injects a dose of Resident Evil. At least, that’s the vibe we’re getting from its new teaser trailer and we’re absolutely here for that.
Currently set for a PC release, it casts you as a lone traveller who, lost in a vast ocean, stumbles across the worst submarine this side of Iron Lung. What’s particularly intriguing is that you’re not stranded on some exotic alien planet, filled with wonder.
Instead, the whole world seems to be drenched in gloom. It’s not clear whether this is Earth, but there’s evidence of a fallen civilization. Exit your submarine and you can swim around sunken buildings, right up until something horrible bites your head off.
That’s assuming your wonky submarine doesn’t kill you first – maintaining its systems are critical to your survival. We love how the sub’s computers have that 70s Alien vibe, underlining that your sub is a real museum piece.
And while Full Fathom does channel Subnautica and Resident Evil (you’ve even got the item case) there’s also a dash of BioShock in there. As much as we love that game, we always wished we could exit the bathysphere and roam around. Full Fathom looks like it may finally deliver that experience.
Full Fathom is the work of two-dev team DÆMON House and while it doesn’t have a release window as yet this is definitely one to watch. You can wishlist it on Steam here and follow the developer here.
