The Pokémon Company and Aardman have revealed that they are collaborating with each other on a project that will release in 2027. It’s a team up that will apparently result in brand new adventures within the Pokémon universe, brought to life with Aardman’s unique style of storytelling.
“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon,” states Taito Okiura, VP of Marketing and Media at The Pokémon Company International. “Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”
For those unaware, Aardman is the animation company behind hits such as Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and a whole lot more. Thanks to the company’s use of stop-motion animation, it’s captured the hearts of viewers all around the world, and now it apparently seeks to further its reach by taking on the world of Pokémon.
While I’m very much hoping this means we can look forward to a Pokémon project made in Aardman’s signature style, it’s not a given: the company has also worked on some other, slightly left-field projects, such as the video game 11-11: Memories Retold back in 2018. In my head I’m picturing a new Pokémon movie or TV series with the art style of Wallace & Gromit, but really, it could be anything, even a brand new take on the video game series.
“It’s a huge honour to be working with The Pokémon Company International,” said Sean Clarke, Managing Director of Aardman. “We feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way.”
With the project not due to release until 2027, there’s understandably very little known about it right now. In any case, all we can do now and sit and wait until more details are released as the project progresses.
