We’ve seen some great Twitch gimmicks, but one streamer has really knocked it out of the park with their The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim streams. Former software engineer Blurbs has created a mod that turns the Skyrim streams’ viewers into in-game NPCs and the results are ridiculous and spectacular in equal measure.
That’s not all viewers we should add, much as we love the idea of Skyrim being swarmed with wall-to-wall NPCs. Instead, Blurbs’ mod takes the stream’s chat and puts it in the mouth of various in-game characters. We’re not just talking text either, thanks to some AI-assisted text to speech, the characters in question voice whatever oddball lines the chat has come up with.
We’re not going to list every little gem, because this is something you really have to experience for yourself. But no matter how many hours you’ve spent in Skyrim, you’ll still be unprepared for characters..
- reciting All-Star lyrics
- promoting Raid Shadow Legends
- telling Blurbs to get a real job
- making so, so many weed jokes
A neat, if evil, touch is that if someone dies in Skyrim, the respective user gets kicked out of chat. That gives Blurbs an easy way to boot people, though they’ll also get kicked if they expire for another reason. While the chat can voice in-world characters, they have no direct control over their activities. So it’s entirely possible for them to say their piece then just get incinerated by a dragon, removing them from chat.
I created a Skyrim mod that allows my Twitch chat to voice in-game characters (with mouth movements/subtitles/etc) *live* in real-time. It went as horribly as you'd expect.

What’s especially entertaining about this whole business is just how creative some of the stream’s viewers can get. One participant lured Blurbs into a false sense of security, seemingly playing it straight as a ‘normal’ Skyrim NPCs. But, seconds later, they busted out a ‘deez nuts’ joke that still has us grinning.

You can find Blurbs on Twitch here, along with some of their previous Skyrim streams or follow them on Twitter for curated best-of-stream clips. But be warned – as you might expect when you give Twitch a voice, it’s not entirely work-safe.
