There’s a new Castlevania tribute game on the way, The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest, and it sounds absolutely, utterly ridiculous. We can’t wait to get our hands on it.
Not unlike Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest is a tribute to the NES Castlevania games, complete with its 8-bit graphics. Even the title and story are a cheeky nod to Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, though we’re a little worried that Nintendo will put their foot down over the name.
As Simon Quest, you’re miffed that your rival, Stan Helsing, has killed Dracula before you. So what do you do? Resurrect him, after collecting his body parts, and then slay him again. What kind of thundering idiot would do that, eh? Simon Belmont, as it happens, because Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest had you do virtually the same thing, albeit with less ego.
Going by the trailer, which you can check out below, it nails the look of the NES Castlevanias. Though, like Shovel Knight and its ilk, it does so without any of that platform’s technical limitations. You’ll swing, whip and jump your way through enemy after enemy, pausing only to pat the odd doggo. Yes, as the trailer makes clear, you can pat an 8-bit canine.
If you’re a Castlevania fan, 8-bit retroware in general, we can see this tribute game striking a chord. The bad news is that you’ll have to wait till 2025 to see Simon’s stupid, stupid idea bite him in the neck. The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest is set for a Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC release and you can wishlist it on Steam here.
