GameSpew HQ has been struck down in its prime. Both Rich and I have a cold, and it feels like the world is ending. Dramatic? Maybe. Factual? Definitely.
I’m not a health expert, and I don’t pretend to be. But cold/flu viruses have changed drastically in the last few years. I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m older now, and this is my body’s way of telling me that it just can’t cope with the wear and tear of everyday illnesses anymore, or if it’s a result of Covid, and lockdown, and general viruses being given the opportunity to mutate and affect our weakened immune systems in new and “exciting” ways.
A few years ago, it feels like a cold would last nothing more than a few days: you’d simultaneously have a cough, a runny nose and a sore throat. Get it all done with in one go, and after a day or two of feeling sorry for yourself and drinking a couple of Lemsips, you’d be fighting fit again.
What is Weekend Musings?
Weekend Musings is a weekly feature about, well, anything and everything. It’s where we’ll muse about things that have happened over the last week, including the joys of running a website, general life stuff and of course, plenty of video game chatter. You’ll also find a round-up of news and content from over the last week. Stay up to date with Weekend Musings here.
Now, getting a cold virus seems to be a weeks-long event, where symptoms are doled out piecemeal over an extended period. Maybe you’ll start with a scratchy throat. The next day, that might be gone but you’ll inexplicably ache everywhere. Day three, and you’re feeling a bit better, but you’ve got a snotty nose. Day four, you feel like you’ve been run over by a truck thanks to the entirety of your head hurting. Day five, a cough appears. Day six, you’re producing enough snot to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool (sorry).
What’s all this got to do with games, I hear you sigh into your screen. Well, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Except the fact that being ill makes doing my job that much harder, especially when you feel so blah you don’t even really want to play video games (I know). Laying on the sofa is about all I’ve had energy for this week, and so please accept this as my formal apology for a fairly low output on the site.
As the weekend looms, I look forward to putting myself in a Night Nurse-fuelled stupor. And I hope by Monday, I have much less snot and much more energy.
