What Difficulty Should You Play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 On?

Find out what difficulty you should play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on with our handy guide.

Likes in most games, when you start playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 you’re prompted to choose a difficulty level to play on. It can feel like an important decision to make – after all, you’re going to be spending hours with the game, and you want to enjoy the experience. So, what difficulty level should you play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on? That’s something we can hopefully help you decide.

Friendly Neighbourhood

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has four difficulty levels for you to choose from when you first start playing – Friendly Neighbourhood, Friendly, Amazing and Spectacular. Friendly Neighbourhood is the easiest of them all, and is therefore good for those new to action games or just wanting to experience the game’s story without any challenge. On this difficulty, you can’t even be knocked out during combat.

Friendly

For those that want at least a bit of a challenge, it’s worth stepping up to Friendly difficulty. This isn’t massively harder than Friendly Neighbourhood, but you can be knocked out in combat, which at least adds a fail state. Because of this, you’ll have to become fairly competent at the game’s combat system, and perhaps even engage in some of the game’s side-content in order to get the resources required to upgrade things like your health and damage output.

Amazing

Amazing is equivalent to Normal difficulty in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. On this difficulty you’ll find that enemies are a bit more aggressive in combat, taking less damage and dealing out more. They’ll also be a bit more effective at detecting you in stealth situations. Despite effectively being Normal difficulty, however, playing on Amazing can be rather tricky. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself being knocked out from time to time. It definitely pays to delve into the game’s side-missions in this more in order to purchase upgrades and the like.

Spectacular

Only those who really like a grave challenge should dive into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Spectacular difficulty. This really does up the ante, with enemies that can be brutal and perceptive. Unless you’re skilled you’ll die often, and you’ll probably want to complete as much side content as you can to level up and get the resources required for suit and gadget upgrades. Try it if you want, but you have been warned.

Ultimate

What’s important to note is that there are no difficulty-related trophies in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. So, if you care about such things, that might be a relief. You can also change the difficulty of the game at pretty much any time – just hit the Options button and take a look in the game’s settings to do so. Upon completing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 you’ll also unlock yet another difficulty level that’s harder than Spectacular. Take on this Ultimate challenge at your peril.
