Wondering if Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Spiders? The Game Content Triggers Database Has the Answer

Are you eyeing Baldur’s Gate 3, wondering whether you’re going to run into spiders? The Game Content Triggers Database has the answer to that and many other phobia/trauma related queries.

The Game Content Triggers Database is the brainchild of Can I Play That founder and former Epic accessibility wizard Coty Craven. And, as the name suggests, it’s a database of games that informs you what kind of triggers a game contains.

At least, that’s assuming the game is in the database. It’s early days for the site, which launched just two days ago. But Craven and their team of volunteers have, so far, catalogued 35 games. So if you’re wondering whether there are spiders in Baldur’s Gate 3, or want to check if it’s likely to trigger another phobia/trauma, find the game and, hey presto, there’s your answer.

It’s not all about the spiders, though. The Game Content Triggers Database lists 250+ triggers, including some we, admittedly, had never thought of. And each entry will tell you whether or not you can avoid the content. What’s particularly clever is you don’t need to know the official name for a phobia. Type in “holes” into the search box and it brings up trypophobia, fear of small holes.

The database was, in part, inspired by Craven’s 96-year old friend Bess, who they introduced to Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s quite the story, and while we could summarise it, we’d absolutely recommend you read it in full. There’s one other game phobia database out there, GamePhobias, but it’s been abandoned and it feels pretty unwieldy compared to the Game Content Triggers Database.

You can find the Game Content Triggers Database here and if you want to know when a new game has been added, follow the official GCTB Twitter account.
