We’ve got good news if you like to crash cars and generally drive like a nutter: Wreckfest 2 is coming to early access this March. 20th March to be exact, roughly six weeks from now. We’re big fans of the first Wreckfest, so it’s safe to say we’re excited to get our hands on this sequel.
Developed by Bugbear Studios and published by THQ Nordic, Wreckfest 2 describes itself as “the next evolution of full-contact racing”. Bugbear has completely rebuilt the physics engine used in the game, which promises “the most intense crashes, deeper component damage and absolute vehicle mayhem”. Sounds good to us.
If you’re somehow not familiar with the Wreckfest series, it’s a racing game where chaos and destruction is the order of the day. Remember Destruction Derby from the PS1 days? Think of it as a spiritual successor to that. Sometimes you’ll be playing straight races (where taking out your opponents is a valid tactic), and other times you’ll find yourself in a full-on destruction arena, where survival is the only thing that matters.

You can read our review of the first Wreckfest to find out a bit more about what to expect. Needless to say, we’re looking forward to seeing how this new iteration is shaping up. And while we reckon it to be in early access for around a year or so, we expect it to be in pretty good shape when it launches, even if it’s not quite the finished product.
You can add Wreckfest 2 to your Steam wishlist here, and find out more about the game. It’ll be available from 20th March, so be sure to check back in with us to see our thoughts around then.
