During today’s XBOX Games Showcase, it was officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will launch on Oct. 6 this year. Furthermore, the company’s new chief executive announced that it’ll be an XBOX “console exclusive,” meaning only Windows and XBOX console owners will get to play it.

XBOX kicked off its Games Showcase today by giving us a glimpse of what is to come in Gears of War: E-Day. We saw powerful weapons blow enemies into smithereens. There was blood, guts, and horrors beyond comprehension emerging from the ground, with constant tension and action throughout the brief presentation.

However, what surprised us all is that XBOX is returning to exclusivity as E-Day is set to launch only on XBOX consoles, alongside Microsoft-dominated PCs, of course. This exclusivity is rather limited compared to what we’re used to with Sony, but it could be the start of a return to form for the company, which has for long been losing the hardware war to its Japanese competition.

XBOX chief Asha Sharma recently labeled exclusives as necessary, though it still seems the company remains committed to its PC player base as much as its console owners. We’ll see how that’ll change in the future, though.

Gears of War: E-Day will also be a day-one Game Pass title, indicating that XBOX is not yet done with that feature.
