Team Asobi crammed a ton of cameo bots into the multi-award-winning game Astro Bot when it was released last year, and possibly one of the most adorable ones is Bot of War, a reference to Sony’s God of War franchise.

Not only did this moment put a smile on many people’s faces, but even one of the people behind the God of War franchise really dug it.

Speaking to VGC, God of War composer Bear McCreary talked about the time he had a chance to meet Team Asobi, «“I had a chance to tell Team Asobi to their face how much I love their game. I met them the day they came into town for The Game Awards. I loved it. I loved the level,» McCreary said.

While Astro Bot featured a God of War-themed level, the music in it was altered somewhat and wasn[t worked on by McCreary, but by Kenny Young. While McCreary didn’t work with Young, he said there was no need, as Young «nailed it.»

McCreary said, «What Kenny did for me is that when I got to the Bot of War level, and you heard those three notes, it doesn’t matter that they were completely recontextualized, it didn’t matter that they had been redone in this fun, robo-electro-pop style. When you hear those three notes, that’s God of War.»

«That makes me so proud, because it really hit me that I made something,» McCreary added.

That’s quite nice to hear. Hopefully, if and when we get a sequel to Astro Bot, it’ll feature even more cameos. Of course, there is a chance Team Asobi unleashes another wave of free content that will not only bring new levels, but new bots as well.

While Sony hasn’t announced a sequel to the platformer, it’s clear that it’s an important franchise for the company. Astro Bot’s success prompted the company’s CEO to push for more family-friendly games like it, and Sony is even pursuing an Astro Bot movie.

If Team Asobi reveals more content for Astro Bot, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Free content or not, more Astro Bot is a good thing for video games.
