Rockstar is demanding your money again starting June 25, and you need to know exactly what they are offering before you open your wallet.

It has been thirteen years of waiting. Now the release date of November 19, 2026, is locked in. The marketing machine is moving at full speed, meaning a delay is incredibly unlikely. You have two choices for your pre-order: an $80 Standard Edition or a $100 Ultimate Edition. Twenty bucks might seem like pocket change for a title you will probably play for the next decade, but Rockstar actively carved out very specific gameplay features to justify that bump. Before you make a blind purchase, I will walk you through exactly what each tier offers.
The Ultimate Edition Breakdown
The Ultimate Edition goes beyond standard cosmetic skins. Rockstar walled off actual locations and activities behind this tier. If you buy the standard version, you will straight up miss out on these vendors.
Locked Customization
Before you assume you can upgrade your cars at any random garage, know that the Rideout Customs Mod Shops are totally inaccessible for standard owners. You cannot alter vanilla vehicles without access to this specific brand. You also lose One-Eyed Willie’s. I highly suggest securing access to this spot if you plan on doing any serious off-roading. You will need those modified rigs for the swamp areas, and getting stuck in the mud is going to drain your patience fast.
Your character customization takes a hit too. The Stock 305 Clothing Store holds unique looks for Jason and Lucia that do not exist in other retail spots. Sara’s Unisex Salon controls access to signature facial hair for Jason, along with exclusive makeup and nails for Lucia. Even your ink is restricted. The Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, featuring over fifty designs from the FAILE collective, requires the Ultimate Edition.
Walled-Off Activities
This is where the paywall actually stings. You are missing out on two distinct activities. The first is the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store. This acts as an exclusive gang compound on the Southside of Vice City where you can run raids for contraband. The second is the Classic Car Collection Special Commission. This tasks you with hunting down abandoned classic vehicles, fixing them up, and selling them off to a local fixer named Wyman. Skip the upgrade, and Wyman and his compound disappear from your map entirely.
The Exclusive Stash
I put together a clean list of the remaining Ultimate Edition bonuses so you can see exactly what else that extra twenty dollars buys you.
| Category | Bonus Items |
|---|---|
| Garages | Paradise Garage (Watson Bay) and Ocean Beach Garage. Both include weapon lockers. |
| Vehicles | ’95 Grotti Cheetah, ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, Dinka Enduroa Motorcycle, Crest Kayak, Shitzu Squalo boat. |
| Weapons | Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers, custom engravings for Jason’s ES9 Pistol and Lucia’s K17 Pistol. |
| Cosmetics | Goodtime Gear, Jason’s linen suit, Lucia’s red sequin dress, Vapid Ganado pickup mods. |
Standard Edition Expectations
Dropping $80 still gets you the massive base game, which Rockstar claims will be their deepest world yet. I tend to believe them.
Missing out on Wyman’s car requests or a specific tattoo parlor will not ruin your main storyline progression. Plus, if you lock in your pre-order before November 20, you get the Vintage Vice City Pack anyway. That hands you a ’55 Vapid Stanier, a camo pack inspired by Tommy Vercetti, and some unique outfits. If you are strapped for cash right now, just grab the standard version. You can always buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later when you actually want to mess around with those extra shops.
The Fine Print
Before you hit purchase and preload the files on November 12, there are a few technical realities you need to accept.
The Disappointing Physical Box
If you plan to purchase a physical copy of GTA 6, brace yourself for a massive letdown. You will receive a physical box, but it will not contain a disc. Instead, you just get a code inside to redeem your digital copy. Honestly, this trend absolutely sucks. Paying for a piece of plastic just to type in a string of letters defeats the entire purpose of physical media. If you want a box for your shelf, go for it, but know that you are essentially just buying a download code in a fancy case.
Console Exclusivity
Do not bother looking for a PC or Switch version. The game is launching exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC port will inevitably arrive months down the line, but a Switch release is highly unlikely. Rockstar is leaning heavily into the PS5 as the optimal platform, citing the adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and the SSD speed. You can expect standard Performance and Cinematic visual modes targeting 60 FPS and 30 FPS respectively.
Where Is GTA Online?
If you are buying this solely for the multiplayer grind right on launch day, everyone needs to relax. The initial launch package is strictly a single-player experience, with Grand Theft Auto Online 2 arriving at a later date. This is totally normal. Back with GTA 5, the online mode dropped a full two weeks after the main campaign. Rockstar did this to figure out exactly how many people were logging in and to accurately estimate the server load they would need to handle. I expect the exact same strategy here to keep the servers from instantly melting down on day one.
