Hatsune Miku is getting her very own chess set that comes with adorable minifigures, which transform the virtual idol into kings, queens, pawns, rooks, and more.
Chess isn’t exactly something that comes to mind when you think of Hatsune Miku, but neither are glow-in-the-dark fishing rods and talking blood pressure medical devices.
The twin-tailed star has even managed to dash her way into the World Cup as footie fans fight over custody following Japan’s elimination.
While her collabs are endless, this entry into the world of chess might be her biggest checkmate yet (sorry!).
Hatsune Miku gets her own chess set
According to the translated Tianwen Kadokawa announcement, the ‘Hatsune Miku Chess Series’ features Miku reimagined as sets of kings, queens, bishops, knights, rooks, and pawns.
Each of the six plastic Miku figures stands around 13cm (5.1 inches) tall and comes equipped with its own unique costumes, accessories, and stands.
For example, knight Miku has an adorable riding outfit with a tiny horse logo proudly emblazoned on her cap, while queen Miku comes kitted out with a little red crown and a regal cane.

There are also black and white versions of each chess piece, so telling them apart on the battlefield should be pretty easy if you intend to start your road to grandmaster.
Preorders opened via Chinese retailer Taobao on July 3, 2026, with each Miku chess piece costing 79 RMB ($11.63 USD). While pricing for a complete set has yet to be announced, fans will also be able to purchase a box containing all six miniature Miku figures at a later date.

Hopefully, the set gets an international release date, but for now, Miku’s grand chess entrance remains exclusive to China.
Speaking of global releases, one dedicated fan has created a Hatsune Miku map that shows off every country’s Miku variant, and it’s absolutely incredible.
