Developers behind a popular Hatsune Miku game have urged fans to stop harassing each other online and in-game after ongoing issues within the community.

Usually, when you think of Hatsune Miku, you think of themes of love, friendship, unity, and head-banging beats. Maybe you also think of the endless slew of collabs, like the bizarre Miku fishing rod, leek-based earbuds, and unofficial Forza Horizon 6 kit cars.

However, it seems the positive vibes surrounding the twin-tailed star haven’t reached everyone, as the developers behind the popular rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! issued a warning to the community over toxic behavior.

Hatsune Miku says no to cyberbullying!

On May 27, the devs released a lengthy statement addressing examples of anti-social behavior, and man, if Miku ever saw this, she would be sad. The report includes multiplayer bullying, leaks, toxic behavior on social media, and even character fan wars.

It seems that it’s all kicking off in the Hatsune Miku rhythm game community, and not even the virtual idols are safe.

“Many Colorful Stage! players have a group or character that they are a particular fan of. It can be very hurtful to read insulting comments about your favorite character or characters, or to be insulted for liking them,” reads the post.

The devs then highlighted specific examples, warning against comments like “X character’s singing sucks” and “X character/fans are so annoying.” Cyberbullying virtual singers aside, the devs also mentioned how insults have also translated to real-world players.

Several examples of behavior the team says players should avoid include insulting others for missing combos during co-op matches, mocking low-ranked players, and telling free-to-play users they “shouldn’t play if they can’t afford it.”

Fans were also told to stop posting comments bashing songs, stories, and artwork, including statements like “This isn’t what fans wanted” or demands for certain characters to be removed entirely.

The list goes on, and you can read the full details via the etiquette guidelines, but who would have thought the world of Hatsune Miku would share similarities to old-school MW2 lobbies?
