Helldivers 2 dropped its Bastion Tank overview trailer on February 3, outlining the four player roles needed to roll through Automatons during the Cyberstan offensive.
Most of it played as expected, until players noticed something that immediately raised eyebrows during one segment: SEAF soldiers, actively fighting Automatons alongside Helldivers outside of city environments:
That detail matters because, right now, SEAF troops only appear as friendly NPCs in Metropolis and Colony missions. Seeing them deployed on standard planetary biomes breaks an established rule of the game, and Helldivers 2 players do not believe Arrowhead does things like that by accident.

The community spotted it almost instantly. One Reddit post shared screenshots from the trailer, questioning whether SEAF units were now spawning on non-city maps or if the devs are hinting at something much bigger:

Speculation quickly shifted toward the long-requested SEAF Support stratagem. Ever since SEAF soldiers were introduced during the Battle of Super Earth campaign, players have been dreaming up concepts centered on calling in these allied infantry squads.
These fan ideas often include basic command behavior, medics providing support, and even anti-tank units covering Helldivers during objectives.

What makes this theory feel less like wishful thinking is Arrowhead’s track record. The studio has repeatedly shown that it listens closely to the community and is willing to turn long-standing player ideas into real mechanics. When new assets appear in trailers, they usually serve a purpose beyond visual flair.

The timing also lines up with the current Major Order. With the push toward Cyberstan underway, it would make sense for High Command to deploy conventional SEAF forces alongside Helldivers rather than relying solely on orbital insertions behind enemy lines.
Helldivers 2 Could Finally Feel Like a Real War

Right now, Helldivers (aka Super Earth’s “elite” soldiers) are almost always dropped deep into hostile territory for sabotage and disruption missions. Introducing SEAF troops beyond city maps would shift that dynamic, turning some missions into active battlefronts instead of isolated strikes.

This PlanetSide 2-style frontline concept has been circulating within the community for months. Players have repeatedly asked for missions that feel like coordinated assaults, with visible allied forces pushing objectives alongside Helldivers rather than four soldiers fighting entire armies alone.

Now, whether Arrowhead really delivers a full-fledged SEAF Support stratagem or simply expands NPC deployments to additional mission types, either option would refresh the existing gameplay loops that risk becoming repetitive over time. But the “hopium,” as they say, is real this time.
Do you think it’s a deliberate tease, or is this just trailer flavor? Would calling in infantry squads finally give Helldivers proper backup, or would it upset the game’s balance? Let us know in the comments below!
