Gamers longing for Battlefield Heroes can now test Heroes of Valor, which has the makings of a spiritual successor to EA studio DICE’s spin-off FPS series.
Battlefield Heroes is officially not coming back, but Heroes of Valor promises to be the «original» successor to DICE studio’s cartoon shooter.
For the record, the Fancy Cat Interactive team (Blazing Sails) is not at all advertising their game as the spiritual successor to the Battlefield spin-off. However, players quickly noticed the similarities between both projects — from the colorful, cartoonish graphics to the gameplay with classes and a third-person perspective.
Besides, in the official press release, the newly acquired game publisher, Iceberg Interactive, allegedly describes HoV as «Battlefield Heroes, that you can play» (via PC Gamer). The developer only mentions inspiration from Battlefield 1942 and Brothers in Armsand states that the team was tired of waiting for a game to replace Electronic Arts’s long-unsupported title.
- Heroes of Valor on Steam
Nonetheless, the developers assure that all assets and models in Heroes of Valor were created from scratch, unlike unofficial projects like Phoenix Heroes or Risinghub. The whole thing is based on a different engine (Unreal Engine), and many elements have been changed or added (or will appear in the future, via Reddit / Steam). That’s why the game could be placed on Steam as a standalone, full-fledged production.
Heroes of Valor is heading for early access (currently without a release date), and players can now join the game’s tests on Steam. Beta testers can expect bonuses in the full version of HoV. This won’t be a free-to-play game, because it is being developed by two developers «without big bank accounts.»
