Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley has revealed one of their inspirations for the upcoming FX prequel series. In the first Alien show, Don’t Worry Darling’s Sydney Chandler will be leading the cast as Wendy, who will be introduced as a hybrid robot.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hawley confirmed that elements of the iconic Peter Pan story inspired the main characters of Alien: Earth, revealing that the show will be calling them as Lost Boys. “I had this Peter Pan idea, and I thought, Well, where in the first two movies is any of this?” He explained. “In James Cameron’s movie, you have Newt, who’s an actual child, and then you have Bill Paxton’s character, who’s arguably the most childish character in the history of movies: ‘Game over, man!’ You have this confluence of this adult acting like a child, and this child acting wiser than all of the adults. And I thought, Oh, that’s in there.”
In the show, Hybrids are adult human-looking robots who have the consciousness of real human children. Prior to becoming Hybrids, these children had terminal diseases which led them to volunteer for the Prodigy Corporation’s Hybrid experiment. According to Hawley, he chose The Lost Boys as the central characters of the show because he wanted to introduce untainted heroes who are truly innocent.
“There’s a nobility to children, and especially children who have been sick, and a wisdom and a sense of being beyond their years,” he continued. “I thought it was interesting to bring these very clear-minded children into a complex moral universe that’s basically built around the sins of capitalism, and this trillionaire who’s basically still a child himself.”
