How Dragon & Goblin Attacks Work in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

So you built a little house in the woods. Maybe planted some crops. Maybe even thought, “Hey, this feels peaceful.”

Wrong.

In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, peace is a lie told by chickens right before they explode. Between dragon fly-bys and goblin warbands, there’s always something trying to destroy your base and your mood. Here’s how both attacks work—and why they matter.

What Are Dragon Attacks?

Let’s start with the big one.
Dragon attacks are not boss fights. They’re aerial assaults where a massive dragon flies overhead and drops attacks from above.

These attacks feel more like magical weather events than real combat. You’ll know it’s coming when the warning pops up: “You are being hunted.” After that, it’s just you, your stamina bar, and a whole lot of dodging.

You cannot fight back as of now, but future updates may change that.

Are Dragon Attacks Random?

Right now, yes.

There doesn’t seem to be a trigger like a quest or building milestone. Sometimes you might even get attacked repeatedly in the same area over multiple nights, with no way to really stop it.

What About Goblin Raids?

If dragons are the air force, goblins are the infantry.
These guys show up in organized waves and are usually part of a goblin warband attack, which:

  • Spawns a full mob of enemies near your home

  • Happens with little warning (you might get a message first)

  • Destroys your base structures, including storage chests

You can’t build walls or traps to thoroughly stop them as of this moment in time. They might even teleport right inside your build and swing like they own the place.

Can You Defend Against Them?

You can fight back against Goblins but not Dragons. However, there are no working base/building defenses, and the AI doesn’t care about terrain. Goblins can spawn inside your house and dragons may ignore your ceiling (bug; should be fixed soon).

Is There a Way to Turn Them Off?

Not yet.
There are no difficulty options or custom world settings to control events like these. If you host a server, you can’t disable raids or dragon attacks. The Early Access roadmap hints at more customization eventually, but we’re not there yet.

Thoughts On the Attacks

These attacks are part of what makes Dragonwilds a survival game. But the way they currently work:

  • Interrupt base building

  • Punish solo players

  • Feel random instead of strategic

If you’re hoping to build a peaceful homestead in Ashenfall, you’re going to have a bad time unless the devs add more counterplay, defenses, or logic to how and when these events trigger. Hopefully they do soon!

Final Blurb

Dragonwilds wants you to survive. But it also wants to crush your dreams with a flaming poison meteor and teleport goblins into your kitchen while you’re boiling water. For now, dragon and goblin attacks are unavoidable but maybe, someday, you’ll get the chance to actually fight back against those flying beasts.
