"How Is That Fair": Marvel Rivals Doesn't Seem To Be Punishing Leavers As Much As Everyone Else

Marvel Rivals Season 2 is officially upon us, and now that we’ve all put some hours into Emma Frost (or tried to, anyway), we can take a step back and look at how the game has improved or worsened with all the changes NetEase has made. From what I can see, the consensus is relatively positive, but there are a few niggling problems that some would like to see addressed fairly soon.

One of those problems is the rise in quitters. Marvel Rivals strongly encourages grouping up and playing as a team most of the time, so when you’re a man down because someone decided to pack up and leave, it will make most games unwinnable, especially if it’s a healer or tank that left. Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals does little to discourage people from doing so.

Of course, you can rack up a temporary ban for leaving too many games in a short space of time, and NetEase has allowed players to report people that leave mid-match for throwing. It’s not enough for a lot of people though, and the problem has now been exacerbated by the way you gain and lose points depending on your performance, which was recently tweaked with the start of Season 2.

Marvel Rivals Fans Are Calling For NetEase To Severely Punish Leavers

We don’t know how Marvel Rivals calculates points for performance, but it should probably make sure those that leave are losing as many points as possible. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case, as a Reddit user called JayAlzier recently claimed to have lost more points while playing out a loss than their teammate who left did.

I personally don’t find it fair that players get punished like this when someone else rage quits. Why am I losing 25 points when they leave?

In the match, JayAlzier claims that they stayed until the end of their match and got some kills, losing 23 points in the process, but their teammate that ditched the fight and didn’t contribute at all lost just 20. Another user called WackyyWombat details their experience with a quitter that left after they didn’t get the character they wanted. WackyyWombat apparently lost 22 points, while the quitter only lost 19.

This has led to renewed calls for NetEase to start severely punishing people that quit in the middle of competitive matches, with one user called Inexorably_lost going so far as to say that leaving a competitive match should have an «an automatic -50» attached to it. Many point out that disconnects are a thing, but even a few of those people would take a 50-point deduction if it meant finally discouraging quitters.
