Season 2 is set to pick up the story five years later, with Hannah and Bailey once again finding themselves in chaos, with Owen’s unexpected return in their lives. The official synopsis of The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 states,

When Owen (Coster-Waldau) shows up after five years on the run, Hannah (Garner) and her stepdaughter Bailey (Rice) find themselves in a race to figure out how to reunite their family before the past catches up to them.

Jennifer Garner Reveals She Begged for The Last Thing He Told Me

Jennifer Garner, who leads the series as Hannah Hall, recently reflected on how she begged for the role in the Apple TV+ adaptation of Laura Dave’s book The Last Thing He Told Me.

“When I first read The Last Thing He Told Me, I almost couldn’t bear it because someone was already cast to play Hannah Hall,” she recalled, as per People. Even after the initially cast actress exited the project, Garner said she didn’t believe she had a real chance.

When that person fell out, I still didn’t think there was a shot in heck that I would be so lucky — I stayed up all night and wrote letters pleading my case, referencing the book, basically begging to have the opportunity.

To her surprise, author Laura Dave, who also co-created the series, told her that everyone wanted Garner to lead the series as Hannah.

Before Garner joined the project, Julia Roberts was reportedly in talks to star in the series adaptation. However, Roberts later exited due to scheduling issues (Variety), opening the door for Garner to take over the Apple TV+ mystery thriller.
