Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 rewards players who take the time to explore every corner instead of rushing through to the next area. Sometimes, that curiosity leads to useful items like upgrade materials or Chroma. Other times, it uncovers a completely new boss encounter packed with rewards to help on your journey.
Chromatic Orphelin is one of those hidden bosses that’s easy to miss unless you’re checking every path and opening. While this fight is optional, defeating the trio gives you a major XP boost, a pile of valuable loot, and a powerful new weapon for your party. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find Chromatic Orphelin and how to beat them in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How to Find Chromatic Orphelin in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Chromatic Orphelin is very easy to miss for players in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It’s a hidden boss in an optional region called Yellow Harvest. You need to unlock Esquie first and break rocks northwest of the Hidden Gestral Arena to reach Yellow Harvest.
Once you reach Yellow Harvest, continue onward until you arrive at the Yellow Spire Wrecks expedition flag. From this point, take the right path to come out of the cave opening. Instead of continuing forward, take an immediate right to find an opening in the mountain. Mantle on top and drop down through the tunnel to arrive at a new hidden location.
Navigating through the tunnel, you’ll shortly find a trio of Nevrons hard at work near a hot air balloon. Simply walk up to them to initiate the Chromatic Orphelin boss battle.
How to Beat Chromatic Orphelin in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
The key to beating Chromatic Orphelin is the same as with any other bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You must learn the parry timings for their attacks or learn to dodge them. For this fight, it’s especially important due to how hard each of the Orphelins hits.
The boss encounter has you going up against three separate Orphelins, each of whom can take you down in one shot. To make matters worse, their attacks also inflict the Blight status effect, which effectively reduces your maximum HP by 10% for each stack.
The three Orphelins have separate health pools, and you need to take down all three Orphelins to beat the boss.
Thankfully, their movesets are fairly straightforward, and once you get the timing down, dodging or parrying becomes much easier.
Chromatic Orphelin Attack Pattern

«Chromatic Orphelin attacks»
One of the three Orphelin will start spinning rapidly and move towards the player. For a successful parry or dodge, you’ll have to hit the button after the third spin. The boss will hit you on the fourth spin.

«Chromatic Orphelin attacks with his spoon»
The Orphelin on the right walks up slowly towards the player and does a three hit combo with his spoon. While the timing for the three strikes is the same, he will do a quick spin before the third strike
-
-
«Chromatic Orphelin attacks with his hammer»
The middle Orphelin jumps towards the player and strikes three times with the hammer on his right hand. The first two hits are quick, but there’s a small delay before the third strike.

«Chromatic Orphelin attacks with his nail»
The Orphelin on the left walks up towards the player and does a two-hit combo with the tongs in his right hand. He starts with a slow backhand swing with the weapon and spins for another backhand swipe.
The biggest issue with the battle is that each of the Orphelins has a lot of health. But thankfully, they have a big elemental weakness that you can exploit to make the battle go faster. The Orphelins are weak against Earth damage, making Lune a major asset in the fight. Gustave’s
Gaulteram weapon can also be an excellent weapon for the encounter.
You’ll want to have a few Cleansing Skills assigned, too, so that you can get rid of the Blight effect if it stacks up. Gustave’s
Recovery or Lune’s
Healing Light /
Tree of Life are quite useful for this battle. Verso and Sciel also have some cleansing skills that you can use if they are in your party.
Despite the boss’s big health pool, the fact that their moves are telegraphed and easy to counter makes it a manageable fight, even at early levels. If you’re struggling, you can always come back later once you’ve got a few more levels under your belt.
