On your journey through Super Mario Wonder, you’re accompanied by Prince Florian – a strange little caterpillar with a flower on his head. That flower, however, contains a badge – and that badge gives Mario and his friends a unique ability. But how do you change your badge ability in Super Mario Wonder?
The first badge you’ll get while playing will likely be the glide ability. Jump off something tall then hold R: Mario will grab onto his hat, using it to glide across a large distance. But other abilities soon come along, like the wall jump, the ability to swim quickly underwater and more. Unfortunately, you can’t use them all at once – you have to pick one.
You get the opportunity to change your badge (and your ability) before starting a level. Once you’ve selected a level from the map, you’ll be prompted to press R on the next screen. Do so, and you’ll then be able to choose your badge. Choose wisely, because some abilities are much more useful than others on a particular level. Is it an underwater level, for instance? Then swimming quickly might come in handy!
Unfortunately, you won’t get to change your badge once you’re already in a level. You’ll either have to quit and start again, or wait until you die. If you lose a life, you’ll get the chance to change your badge before jumping back into the level.
