You’re about to earn your very own Proton Whip Tether. It’s basically a grappling hook with attitude, and it’s required if you want to stop slipping off every ledge like a fool. Here’s how to unlock it step-by-step without wandering around like a lost space tourist.
Step 1: Hunt Down the Hognork
Head south from the grapple marker and look for a path of purple mushrooms leading uphill. Follow that route and you’ll find the Hognork lounging in some water, looking like it just finished eating something it shouldn’t have.

Scan the Hognork first.

Its weak spot is in the mouth, right between the top two teeth.

Wait for it to roar, then shoot the spot to stun it.

Once it’s stunned, lasso and pull it in with your Proton Whip.
If you do it right, you’ll get the achievement «In the Bag.»
Step 2: Grab Extra Stuff Before You Leave

Behind the Hognork, scan the strange throne nearby.

Next to it, grab the Printer Slurry cartridge from the crate—it’s easy to miss.
Step 3: Unlock the Whip Tether Back at Base
Go back to your base console and research the Hognork. After that, you’ll need these resources:

Carbon: 350
-
Silicon: 200
-
Aluminium: 300
Once you’ve got the materials, unlock the Whip Tether upgrade.
Now you can finally grapple like a champ by pressing L1 (or LB) near grapple points.
Step 4: Fight Your Way to the Cannon Software

Use your new tether to climb the grapple path.

At the top, you’ll find a computer console in a circular arena.

Hit Square (or X) to start hacking, and brace yourself…
Enemies will attack while the hack is in progress. You have to clear them all out to finish.
Once the coast is clear, open the nearby crate to grab the Cannon Targeting Software.
Step 5: Fire Up the Habitat Upgrade

Return to your Habitat base.

Interact with the outside console to install the software and trigger the upgrade.

Go inside and you’ll see a new video playing—this starts the next quest: Interstellar Enigma.
Before you leave, hop into the Planet Cannon and press Square (X) to blast off to the next zone.
