The Mistbearer boss in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon is hidden away and easy to miss if you’re not exploring properly. You’ll only come across it if you head deep into the Ancient Cave in the Horns of the South. This is not part of your usual main quest flow, and it’s tied to a side quest that starts from a conversation, not a marker.

How to beat the Mistbearer boss in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon
To get to the Mistbearer, make your way to the Ancient Cave located at the far north of Horns of the South. It’s just beyond the Ancient Cromlech, northwest of the All-Mothers Temple. The trail leading up is packed with some minor enemies, so be ready for a few fights.
Inside the cave, you’ll find a man named Taranis. He’s the one who talks to you about the Mistbearer. Don’t be aggressive in your replies — just let him talk and go through all the dialogue. This starts the Whispers in the Dark side quest.
Once that’s done, go deeper into the cave. After a bit of walking and turning, you’ll reach a clearing with a large tree. Interact with it, and that’s when the Mistbearer boss fight begins.
Battle strategy
The Mistbearer boss is tied to the mist theme and has three different phases. Its attack pattern changes with each phase.
- The boss remains mostly stationary and spawns Mistlings using its lantern. These aren’t particularly strong, so you can concentrate your attacks on the Mistbearer’s head. Use melee weapons like swords if you’re suited for close combat. Additionally, it’s not easy to aim for his head all the time, so dealing body damage works just fine. If needed, high-damage ranged attacks are effective as well.
- When its health drops enough, the Mistbearer disappears (underground disappearance) and leaves you with more Mistlings. You can kill them to move the fight forward.
- In this last phase, the boss spawns several fake versions of itself. These clones vanish after one hit. Your goal is to find the real Mistbearer and damage it quickly. Once you land a hit on the real one, the clones stop appearing.

Rewards
After the fight, you’ll get the following:
- 5x Wyrdplasm
- 1x Wyrdlantern
- 1x Unfading Ember
- 1x Evil Eye
- 1x Mistbearer’s Horn
Following this, go back to Taranis and update him. If you didn’t make him hostile earlier, you’ll still be on good terms, and that can be useful later in the game.
