The gas mask is a new piece of kit in Battlefield 6 Season 2, and equipping it is a simple matter. Here’s how. The gas mask makes its return with Battlefield 6 Season 2 alongside the VL-7 hallucinogenic smoke. It works a bit differently than its previous incarnation in BF1, but equipping it is easy. The trick comes in keeping it on as you fight in the gas. By default, you can equip the gas mask at any time by holding down the X button on keyboard or up on the D-Pad if you play on controller. You can rebind those controls in the settings or even make a separate bind that lets you equip the mask with a press rather than a hold. After equipping the gas mask and entering the VL-7 smoke, you’ll see that the equip icon will turn yellow and a line will start descending from its top. You should also notice the number one in the top right of the icon. Like gas masks in Call of Duty: Warzone, gas masks in Battlefield 6 have durability when you’re in VL-7 smoke. A single mask lasts about 15 seconds, at which point it becomes ineffective, and the smoke’s hallucinogenic effects will start even with the mask equipped. You can, however, get more charges on your mask by standing near a Support’s Supply Bag. The Supply Bag recharges the gas mask at about double its degradation speed, meaning you can reach the maximum of five mask charges well before the VL-7 smoke would break them. The gas mask won’t degrade if you have it equipped outside of the orange VL-7 smoke, but your vision will remain inhibited by the edges of the mask. I’d recommend having it on whenever you’re near a gas cloud as a precaution, unless you only have one charge and you need to conserve it. I’d also recommend getting the full five charges from a Supply Bag as you transition between orange smoke-covered objectives. That way, you aren’t reliant on finding one in the chaos the smoke causes. I should also mention that gas masks do nothing to improve visibility in any kind of smoke, whether from the VL-7 stuff or a smoke grenade. Smoke grenades never caused any adverse effects beyond impairing visibility, so no real changes there.
