Strange Coins are one of the many types of currency available in Destiny 2, and unlike most of them, these are used to buy some of the best, build-defining items in the game: Exotics. Sure, there are a few caveats involved, but players should still hold these coins in high regard.
Getting and using Strange Coins is a quick and easy way to get some of the best gear in Destiny 2, but these things don’t come easy. Almost every playlist activity drops Strange Coins, but considering how few of them are given away, some players might find the Strange Coin farm too slow or tedious. If that’s how you’re feeling, here are a couple of quick tips on how to farm Strange Coins faster.
Destiny 2: Strange Coin Farming
As mentioned, playlist activities drop small amounts Strange Coins. If you’re in no particular hurry, simply pick whichever Destiny 2 Ritual Activity you prefer and your coins from there. However, if Xur is getting ready to leave and you’re yet to get enough Strange Coins for whatever he’s selling, try doing these ing activities.
Crucible — Mayhem
Not everyone is a fan of Destiny 2’s PvP, but if you want to farm for Strange Coins, Crucible gear, or even weapon catalysts, then the Mayhem game mode might be what you’re looking for. This is a limited-time mode that’s part of the Crucible’s weekly rotation, and matches in Mayhem tend to not last very long (five minutes, give or take). Everyone has supercharged abilities here, so just hop on a match and enjoy the chaos.
Momentum Control is a decent alternative to Mayhem. Matches here also tend to end quickly, and it’s generally less stressful than regular Control due to the faster time-to-kill values on weapons (or it could be more stressful, depending on how you look at it).
Crucible matches reward 2-3 Strange Coins depending on whether you win or lose.
Short Strikes
If you’re not in the mood for PvP, then the next best way to farm Destiny 2 Strange Coins is to do short Strike missions. Such missions include:
- Warden of Nothing
- Fallen SABER
- Devil’s Lair
These Strikes should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Depending on the week’s Nightfall rotation, you can farm these missions there for a shot at getting Nightfall weapons and other goodies (like Destiny 2 Nightfall Ciphers). Otherwise, go to the Director screen, pick the Strike you want to farm, then farm until you can’t farm anymore.
Strikes reward 4 Strange Coins once you open the boss chest at the end of the mission.
Favor of the Nine Buff
Once you spend 47 Strange Coins, go to Xur’s More Strange Offers tab and grab Favor of the Nine. This will give you the Strange Favor buff, which gives you a chance to get an additional Strange Coin whenever you get one. This effect lasts for 11 days, and it stacks up to three times. Getting Favor of the Nine again adds a stack and refreshes the buff duration.
