How to get Tarountula and evolution Spidops in Pokémon Go

Tarountula counters and weaknesses explained.

Tarountula and Spidops, its evolution, who hail from Gen 9 have made their Pokémon Go debut.

The inspiration for Tarountula and Spidops is pretty obvious — spiders. This also makes their typing pretty obvious — Bug. Sadly, they’re not dual Poison types like Spinarak and Ariados from Gen 2… Yet, it’s still worth taking the time to add them to your Pokémon Go Pokédex.

So let’s take a look at how to get Tarountula in Pokémon Go, along with how to evolve Tarountula into Spidops and the Tarountula counters and weaknesses.

How to get Tarountula in Pokémon Go

Tarountula debuted during November 2025’s Enchanted Hollow event in Pokémon Go.

Here’s how to catch Tarountula during the Enchanted Hollow event:

  • In the wild
  • Mossy Lure Module
  • One-star raids
  • Collection Challenges — Fantastical Forest and Whimsical Woods

As you can see, there’s a lot of ways to catch Tarountula during the Enchanted Hollow event. This means you’re free to use whichever method you prefer to catch this little spider! Whether it’s winning an easy raid (I’ve got the Tarountula counters and weaknesses down below though if you want a helping hand) or using a Mossy Lure Module to boost its spawns.

Personally, I would recommend attempting to catch Tarountula in the wild first. Since it’s a new Pokémon, it should take priority on your Pokémon radar if it’s nearby making it easy to track down. While you’re doing this, it’s a good idea to complete both of the Collection Challenges. Just like Tarountula, there’s a range of ways to catch the Pokémon in these challenges, including all of them appearing in the wild. Doing this will earn you two Tarountula encounters — perfect for earning the candy you need for its evolution.

I highly recommend taking the time to add Tarountula to your Pokédex as its spawn rates after the Enchanted Hollow event ends are currently unknown. This means, despite being easy to find at the time of writing, it could suddenly become quite rare. Ideally, you should also take the time to collect enough candy for evolving it into Spidops but this isn’t a necessity. There’s also ways to earn Tarountula Candy without catching it…

The Enchanted Hollow event is currently running and it’s brought Tarountula! Remember to check the November event and raid schedule. There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! First, it’s worth learning about the level update. After this, you might want to fight in the Go Battle League, use Party Play, compete in a PokéStop Showcase or explore a Route for its Gift Exchange. Keep an eye out for rare Pokémon and don’t forget to collect Max Particles, so you can battle Dynamax Pokémon in Max Battles.

How to evolve Tarountula into Spidops in Pokémon Go

To evolve Tarountula into Spidops in Pokémon Go, you need 50 Tarountula Candy.

This is quite an easy evolution to complete since you’ll be able to gather up enough candy by using Pinap Berries every time you attempt to catch a Tarountula. If you’re coming into the Enchanted Hollow event late or get unlucky when it comes to hunting down Tarountula, you can always have a Tarountula as your buddy Pokémon. This will allow you to collect candy by simply exploring the world playing Pokémon Go.

Tarountula counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go

Tarountula is a one-star raid boss, so it should be easy to solo in Pokémon Go. Still, it’s a good idea to know which Tarountula counters and weaknesses to target:

  • Tarountula type — Bug-type
  • Tarountula is weak against — Fire, Flying and Rock-types
  • Tarountula Mega counters — Mega Blaziken, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Salamence, Mega Diancie and Mega Aerodactyl.
  • Tarountula non-Mega counters — For Fire-types, Charizard, Entei, Blaziken, Heatran and Reshiram. For Flying-types, Moltres, Staraptor, Lugia, Rayquaza and Braviary. For Rock-types, Rhyperior, Rampardos, Terrakion, Tyrantrum and Stonjourner.
  • Tactics — When it comes to battling pure Bug-types, then Fire is always the best way to go. Sure you could use a Flying or Rock-type Pokémon, but why bother when you burn your foe away? The only reason why you might use one of these other weaknesses is if you don’t have a strong Fire-type Pokémon, but, seriously, arson all the way for this fight.

Tarountula best moveset in Pokémon Go

My recommendation for the best Tarountula moveset in Pokémon Go is Bug Bite as a Fast Move and X-Scissor as a Charged Move. You could always diversify Tarountula’s moveset by unlocking a second Charged move to teach it Grass Knot, but is it really worth the Stardust?

Are Tarountula and Spidops shiny in Pokémon Go?

No, Tarountula and Spidops are not shiny in Pokémon Go at the time of writing. This means we’ll have to wait for these shiny forms to be released, which will happen during a future Pokémon Go event. We’ll just have to wait and see…

Shiny Tarountula and shiny Spidops are definitely worth collecting. Any shade of green is replaced by either black and a bright red for Tarountula or a purple magenta for Spidops. This colouring reminds me of the black widow spider (not the Marvel character), especially in the case of Tarountula. Just love that red ball of silk!
