In a press release, it was revealed by the devs that Horses was not allowed for Steam release, and despite following proper guidelines (according to devs), it was denied again and again. It has been further clarified that the ban wasn’t pushed due to recent adult content censorship drama. The devs also accuse Steam’s curatorial team of being responsible for taking such a decision.

Epic Games has taken a wild turn right before the release of the game. The devs even shared that the release build was approved weeks before, yet it was taken down, and even the appeal was denied.

Horses Shouldn’t Be Banned for Expressing Artistic Vision

Horses may seem like a messed-up game, and it’s kind of true. However, there are even worse contenders when it comes to being messed up. 2018 super-hit, Doki Doki Literature Club, had certain themes that would affect people in a lot of ways, but it wasn’t banned.

Exhibit two, Steam still has Hatred available on the store, and it’s pure mayhem. You play as a murdering antagonist, and that’s all you do. Kill innocents for “fun.” If that’s allowed, then in comparison, Horses looks basic.

As much as Steam is hailed for all the good things, like sales and amazing hardware products, the opposite is also true. Steam does allow for mature content, but the policy seems opaque. The store has a lot of NSFW games, yet one with no physical intimacy is getting banned.

A similar situation seems to be happening with Tormentor as well, which got delayed recently due to Steam’s approval process. Steam’s mature content policy may be stricter following internet censorship drama. Let’s see what happens to these game releases.
