Unlocking guest characters with elaborate homages! Not only is BlazBlue Entropy Effect X more about BlazBlue than ever before, it also has some guest characters from other franchises. Alongside the BlazBlue characters from across the series’ timeline, you can also unlock ICEY from her series she shares a name with, and The Prisoner from indie megahit Dead Cells. Here’s how to go about unlocking them. You have to unlock a menu option called “Boundary” in order to start working on unlocking the guest characters. To get this, you have to simply progress in the story, collecting Shards of Possibility and whatnot. Eventually you’ll unlock this option and the game will draw your attention towards it briefly. To unlock ICEY, her challenge is a series of enemy rooms paired with comedic, fourth-wall breaking narration. Master her combat mechanics and airborne dashing abilities and you’ll finish the challenge in no time. Nice and straightforward. The Prisoner is a bit more of an endeavor, because his Boundary stage is a whole, miniature Metroidvania experience with multiple zones and boss fights. While you don’t have to complete the whole thing in one sitting, you have to complete the whole thing to get the unlock. Strap in, because it’ll probably take you an hour or two. Make sure to scour the map for as many upgrades as possible before taking on the final boss, because it will push you surprisingly hard. Once you complete the Boundary stages you’ll get the items you need to unlock these characters in the Avatar selection menu, and they’ll be regular parts of the roster from there.
