Amazon’s Kindle eReaders are still monochrome.
There's a reason why most eReaders don't come with color screens. Most books are just text with minimal images, so you won't notice whether or not an eReader is actually equipped with a monochrome or color screen unless there are actual illustrations inside of the eBook. Still, if you want a fuller, richer experience that you can use to enjoy those more colorful books, there are a few options. Rakuten Kobo just launched a few eReaders that you might want to check out.
Rakuten Kobo has just launched its first-ever color eReaders, the Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour, departing from the traditional black and white digital reading experience. The new eReaders feature a "Kobo-optimized" color e-ink Kaleido 3 display, offering a subtle palette while retaining the benefits of e-ink technology. The Kobo Libra Colour boasts a 7-inch display and 32GB of storage, along with an ergonomic design for comfortable reading. The Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Clara BW, on the other hand, feature a 6-inch display and 16GB of storage.
Color e-ink display-equipped eReaders are a rapidly growing segment—we're yet to see an Amazon Kindle with a color e-ink display, but other companies have released their own products, so we'd guess it's just a matter of time. Rakuten Kobo is just the latest to jump into the bandwagon.
Both models come with ample storage capacity, long battery life, access to the Kobo.com bookstore, and OverDrive integration for borrowing library books. They also support Bluetooth® wireless technology for listening to Kobo Audiobooks. The Kobo Libra Colour supports stylus-enabled features for journaling and note-taking, with color handwriting and highlighting. The devices are fully waterproof and equipped with ComfortLight Pro capabilities to reduce blue light, ensuring a comfortable reading experience even during late-night sessions.
The flagship Kobo Libra Colour will be available for $219.99. The Kobo Clara Colour will cost $149.99, while the Kobo Clara BW (with a monochrome display) comes at a lower price point, at $129.99. They'll become available on store shelves starting on April 30th, so make sure to keep an eye out at your retailer of choice. They should also appear on the Kobo website.
