I'll Be Surprised If These 2 Classic Marvel Villains Aren't In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Add Us On Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:

Out of all the Spider-Man villains without a live-action appearance that could be hiding in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, none makes more sense than Silvermane and Hammerhead. So far, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has assembled an impressive — and intriguing — mix of character for the wallcrawler’s next MCU film.

In addition to potential team-ups with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Peter Parker is also set to cross paths with Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan, whose role as the Scorpion was previously set up in Spider-Man: Homecoming. There’s also Tombstone, a character who technically exists in the MCU via Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but hasn’t appeared in live-action yet.

Those are the only known outright villains showing up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Though Tombstone is admittedly a mob boss and Scorpion is a great physical threat to Spider-Man, neither feels like main villain material. It’s more likely that Marvel has a lot more to reveal in terms of the number of antagonists he’ll be up against.

2 Major Spider-Man Villains Have A Higher Chance Of Joining The MCU Than Ever

In keeping with Spider-Man: No Way Home’s promise to initiate a reset of sorts for Peter’s story, Brand New Day appears to be on track to be a back-to-basics adventure for the webslinger. Given that the Punisher, Tombstone, and Scorpion are all street-level characters, it makes sense that any other players it adds to the equation will fit into a similar category.

Specifically, this trio of Marvel characters point to a story where organized crime is a huge factor, given that Tombstone is a mob boss, Punisher regularly targets gangsters, and Scorpion is traditionally used as a pawn in their plans.

With that being the subject material Marvel seems to be looking at with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, two characters from that corner of Spider-Man’s corner of the comics come to mind as especially relevant: Hammerhead and Silvermane.

Recognized for his unusually shaped head which he uses as a battering ram in combat, Hammerhead is a formidable fighter and a prominent figure in Marvel’s criminal underworld. Working as an enforcer for Marvel’s Maggia gang, Hammerhead has often come to blows with Spider-Man and has held multiple roles as secondary antagonist or henchman in street-level storylines.

As for Silvermane, he’s typically depicted as Hammerhead’s superior. Introduced in 1969’s The Amazing Spider-Man #69, Silvermane is an elderly crime boss and the leader of the Maggia. In the comics, his advancing age is a key part of his story, as it was the main motivating factor in his desire to restore his youth by illicit means.

Silvermane Could Be The Main Villain Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Of those two villains, one — Silvermane — actually stands a good chance at being the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Being the leader of a powerful gang and an incredibly ambitious man who fears his own mortality, Silvermane is a character with a great deal of storytelling potential, and most certainly someone capable of giving fuel to an entire movie.

It’s possible that in Spider-Man — or perhaps the Hulk — he sees a way of extending his own life, which could be what sets off the battles that take place in the film. And due to his position in the mob, he could find a foe in the Punisher as well.

Despite starting out as a non-superpowered mob boss, Silvermane ultimately acquired power when he had his conscience uploaded to a cyborg body. In other words, there’s a precedent for Silvermane to oppose Spider-Man not just as a mastermind, but also in a physical confrontation.
