The launch of Infinity Nikki's Version 1.5 update (aka Bubble Season) was meant to be a major moment for the game.
For the first time, it introduced co-op, a new Sea of Stars area (no, not the indie turn-based RPG), a fun wardrobe dyeing system, fresh story arcs, and more than 100 pulls worth of rewards for getting involved.
This update is by far the most feature-rich and daring the game has ever had, but that boldness comes with its trade-offs. Although the update brought vibrant fashion and multiplayer features, its release has been plagued with issues on all platforms, marking it as Infinity Nikki's most buggy update to date.
Bubble Season takes player interaction with the game world to a whole new level. Players can now pair up, hold hands, and explore the mystical Sea of Stars area in the newly introduced co-op mode.
This dreamy place, with its shiny pink scenery and cool skywalks, is perfect for multiplayer missions like Bubble Escort, where you need to work together to get a fragile bubble across a winding path. Beyond social features, version 1.5 debuts the DIY Workshop, where players can finally customize their outfits' colors.
This long-requested feature lets you mix color palettes and copy other players' styles with the new Color Lookbook, which also acts as a public fashion inspiration catalog. The Sea of Stars is closely tied to the update's key Miracle Outfit, which plays a significant role in the lore.
Players can earn their pieces by progressing through events and the story, similar to how earlier 5-star outfits were unlocked. New four-star outfits like Crimson Feather and Snowy Ballad were introduced in the patch, complete with special visual effects that sync seamlessly with co-op play.
In honor of the update, Infold Games provided over 100 pulls' worth of Revelation Crystals, Diamonds, and Resonite Crystals via login events, limited-time quests, and code redemptions.
Players could unlock a variety of new outfits by participating in mini-events like Floating Bubbles, Cozy Caretakers, and Heartfelt Gifts, which also reintroduced older outfits for new Steam players to catch up.
Regrettably, what could have been a glorious moment has been spoiled by extensive technical issues. Players on PS5 have reported problems such as the analog stick freezing, the game switching to first-person mode without warning, or being stuck and unable to walk after opening the menus.
A number of players were locked in co-op sessions without any way to leave, while others had to keep restarting their consoles to regain control. PC users have experienced crashes, failed installs, broken rendering in fresh areas such as Sea of Stars and Serenity Island, and outfits vanishing upon login.
Some users couldn't download the patch without completely reinstalling the game, and even after doing so, others faced persistent crashes every 20 minutes or buttons that wouldn't respond during outfit tutorials, freezing all controls. Mobile users weren't spared either.
On both iOS and Android, menus wouldn't load, resolution settings led to freezing, and collectibles were reset after maintenance, wiping out hours of progress. Certain areas, like the Whim Pedals bike trails, broke completely, while custom animations like the Faewish Sprite outfit stayed locked.
The Color Lookbook was an exciting concept, but technical issues made it difficult to save or display entries correctly. Multiplayer missions kept breaking from connection issues or unresponsive prompts, and some quests were locked out because of bugged markers or black screen cutscenes.
To their credit, Infold Games responded quickly with a public apology and a compensation package. Every player received 1,200 Diamonds, 10 Revelation Crystals, and 10 Resonite Crystals in their in-game mail.
Some big bugs, like initialization errors, UI issues in the Heart of Infinity, and miscategorized outfit visuals, have been fixed, but there are still plenty of problems left.
These include:
- Startup failures on PS5
- Lighting and material bugs in the new zones
- Co-op instability and progression blockers
- DIY Workshop interaction glitches
- Outfit visual bugs and performance problems
The studio mentioned nine big issues that aren't fixed yet and asked players to report any other bugs while they work on long-term fixes. Daily hotfixes have been implemented, but players are still experiencing consistent problems.
Bubble Season has the potential to be the best version of Infinity Nikki, but for now, it's an update that's on the cusp of greatness, waiting for a patch to push it over the edge.
