Something looks different about Oliver Grayson. The half-Viltrumite kid who helped take on Conquest last season doesn’t have that signature purple skin anymore. New photos from Invincible Season 4 show him looking way more human than before.

Season 4 stills hit social media this month. Oliver’s new look isn’t random. His changing appearance ties directly to what happens when you mix Viltrumite blood with another species. The transformation raises questions about how far his powers have developed since we last saw him.

Oliver’s Viltrumite DNA Takes Over as He Ages in Invincible Season 4

Oliver got his purple complexion from his mom’s side. She was Thraxan, which gave him that distinct coloring when he first appeared. His dad is Omni-Man, Pure Viltrumite. That’s where things get interesting.

Viltrumite genes don’t play well with others. They take over. Mark looks completely human despite being half-Viltrumite (Via CBR). Oliver’s following the same path, just slower because his non-Viltrumite parent wasn’t human.

The purple is fading because his Viltrumite side is winning. As he gets older and stronger, those dominant genes push out the Thraxan traits. His skin tone now matches what you’d expect from someone with Omni-Man’s genetics running through their veins.

Robert Kirkman‘s comics show this exact progression. Oliver doesn’t stay purple forever. The show is following that blueprint as he matures into his powers. The visual change isn’t cosmetic. It signals a fundamental shift in how his body expresses its dual heritage.

Thraxans age differently from humans or Viltrumites. Oliver’s rapid development early on came from that side of his family. Now his Viltrumite biology is asserting itself. That means his appearance, strength, and durability are evolving simultaneously.

The newly released images show Oliver in updated gear alongside the rest of the cast. Mark’s there. Debbie’s crying in one shot. Omni-Man sports an outfit pulled straight from Issue 66 of the comics. But Oliver’s transformation stands out because it represents actual biological change, not just a costume update.

Oliver threw himself at Conquest without hesitation in the Season 3 finale. Sure, Conquest demolished him within seconds. But the kid showed he’s got the Grayson family fighting spirit. That moment proved he won’t back down even when massively outmatched.

Season 4 brings the Viltrumite War. That’s the big one. Thragg is coming, and Lee Pace’s voice work in the trailer promises absolute carnage. The villain’s declaration to leave no one alive sets the tone for what’s ahead. Oliver won’t be sitting on the sidelines for this.

His physical transformation matches his evolution as a fighter. The more Viltrumite he looks, the more he embodies that warrior heritage. It’s visual storytelling that reinforces his place in this family of superpowered brawlers. Every fight he’s been in has pushed him closer to unlocking his full potential.

Prime Video drops three episodes on March 18, then goes weekly after that. Eight episodes total for this season. The release strategy gives fans a solid chunk upfront before switching to the weekly model. Episode 4 arrives March 26.

Kirkman warned Deadline that viewers should be genuinely concerned about where Mark ends up by season’s end. That probably means Oliver’s facing serious threats too. His purple skin was a reminder that he wasn’t fully Viltrumite. Now that difference is disappearing.

The voice cast remains stacked, including Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons return alongside Seth Rogen, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, and Zazie Beetz. New additions include Matthew Rhys as Dinosaurus and Danai Gurira as Universa. These characters will factor into the Viltrumite War storyline.
