Death just can’t keep a good Iron Fist down as Danny Rand is on his way back to the land of the living. After last year’s stunning death, the martial artist hero is back in action. And this time he’s got a new look that even his biggest detractors have to admit is a great change for Iron Fist.

Marvel Comics has revealed that later this year, it will be putting out the brand-new, four-issue limited series, The Undead Iron Fist. The series brings back Jason Loo, writer of «Happy Birthday, Danny» from Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1, and pairs Loo with artist Fran Galán.

The Undead Iron Fist picks up from Rand’s shocking death last year, digging into the prophecy that heralded Danny’s untimely demise. Not only is Rand back to star in this new adventure, but he’s got a brand-new costume. Not to mention his new mask hides Iron Fist’s biggest secret: a glowing, purple skull.

Danny Rand is Now the Undead Iron Fist

While the title of Iron Fist passed from Danny to his successor, Lin Lie, Rand couldn’t escape everything that came with being K’un-Lun’s greatest weapon. The last time Danny was seen, he was celebrating his 34th birthday, a milestone as every Iron Fist before him was killed by the Ch’i-Lin on their 33rd birthday. Despite killing the Ch’i-Lin, the beast returned, taking the form of Razor Fist. Danny fought valiantly, but the monster succeeded in killing Iron Fist. However, despite Iron Fist being killed, within a matter of weeks, a glowing, ethereal hand emerged from Danny Rand’s grave.

Little has been seen of Iron Fist since last year’s anniversary special and there’s no hint as to what Danny’s new powers are. But given the title of the miniseries and his new, almost zombified look, it appears that Iron Fist is now in a quasi-reanimated state. Meaning, this new look isn’t just to help separate Danny from the current Iron Fist, but to showcase his current status and hint at new, potential powers. While there’s a good chance this new appearance may just be temporary, it could go a long way to helping Iron Fist get some major respect.

Danny Rand's Undead State Shows Off How Cool He Really Is

Unfortunately, despite being a fantastic hero, Danny doesn’t always get the respect he deserves. But to be fair, his costume, admittedly, has never been one of the most intimidating (even if it does aid with his martial arts). However, his new appearance as an undead hero is bold, powerful, and, frankly, pretty badass. Could this just be a stopgap state while Danny transitions from dead to living? Almost certainly. But in the meantime, this is the coolest that Iron Fist has looked in years and, hopefully, even his biggest haters will get onboard with this next chapter.

The Undead Iron Fist #1 is available on September 10, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
