The newest trailer for the upcoming Ironheart series finally proves Riri Williams won’t just be an «Iron Man replacement» in the MCU. Played by Dominique Thorne, Riri Williams first debuted as an MIT student who’s pulled into a major conflict between the nations of Wakanda and Talokan in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now, Ironheart is getting her own series, one that will see her truly coming into her own as a new hero in the MCU.
Having reverse-engineered her own armor resembling one of Tony Stark’s suits, it’s easy to look at Riri Williams’ Ironheart as merely an attempt to fill the void left behind by Iron Man after Avengers: Endgame. However, echoing Iron Man’s legacy is only part of what’s going to make her so special. Case in point, the newest trailer for Ironheart reveals how Riri Williams will become a uniquely iconic hero all her own in the MCU.
Ironheart Confirms Magic's Full Role In The MCU Show
Riri Williams Will Be Using Magic (Not Just Fighting It)
It’s been known for some time that Anthony Ramos is set to make his MCU debut as Parker Robbins aka The Hood. In the original comics, Robbins is a crime lord who wears a red hood and boots imbued with the powers of a demon, making him its host. As such, it’s been assumed that Ironheart will culminate in an impressive battle between The Hood’s magic and Ironheart’s science.
However, it seems as though things are going to be a little more complex than that if the new trailer for Ironheart is any indication. As seen in the trailer, Parker does indeed look like he’s gradually becoming corrupted by a dark force. However, the trailer also sees Riri studying and seemingly harnessing magic as well, incorporating eldritch energies to upgrade and enhance her suit. To that end, one of the more impressive shots in the trailer is of Riri with her helmet on, her heads-up display showing glyphs and vigils rather than more typical readouts.
Ironheart's Magically-Enhanced Armor Already Sets Her Apart From Iron Man
Giving Her Something Unique All Her Own
Ironheart combining science and magic should be pretty fascinating in the upcoming Marvel show. Likewise, it’s also going to help her stand out in the MCU, making her more unique outside the initial «Iron Man replacement» label. The use of magic and engineering in tandem should help her move beyond into a space that’s all her own as she works to create something «iconic,» as she says in the trailers.
Riri is certainly meant to be an extension of Iron Man’s legacy. This is more than evident with her tech being inspired by Stark tech as a foundation. That said, it’s going to be very exciting to see how Ironheart ends up forging her own path in her new show. After all, it’s not as if Iron Man ever figured out how to harness magic through one of his armors (at least not in the MCU).
Will Ironheart Finally Be The MCU Show That Features Mephisto?
There May Be A Cost To Riri's Magical Power
That being said, one has to wonder if there will ultimately be a cost to all of this magic use, both by Parker and by Riri. In the comics, The Hood becomes the host for Dormammu of the Dark Dimension, though it’s been rumored that this may finally be the series where the long-teased Mephisto finally makes his MCU debut. At any rate, it’s going to be very exciting to see what Riri Williams’ Ironheart is capable of once she figures out how to harness magic through her armor.
