Dan Levy Explains Why Big Mistakes Took So Long After Schitt’s Creek

Since Dan Levy will always be known as the co-creator and one of the lead stars of the Emmy-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek, fans and viewers were always looking forward to what the next major project the star would work on. Thus, right when his previous series concluded in April 2020, the industry and the fans wanted him to surprise with the announcement of a new project he was working on.
Thus, with Big Mistakes coming out soon, Levy finally managed to talk about how the expectations were never going to be met so soon by him. During an on-stage Q&A session (via The Hollywood Reporter), the star revealed how he was frustrated with everyone for asking about his next work right after finishing Schitt’s Creek. He said:
When the show ended, there was this immediate conversation of, like, ‘What are you doing next?’ [That’s] a horrible way of doing business. God forbid I nap. For me, it was like, I needed to take a minute because I knew what the show meant to me and I knew what it meant to other people. And having a show of your own, you’re so proud of what you make, and if you’re lucky enough to get, in our case, six seasons of a TV show, you walk away from that really proud of what you’ve done.
Thus, channeling what made his last series so iconic into the new production in terms of the theme and premise, Levy claims to have created something new and fresh, but familiar at the same time, something that took a while to perfect.
