“I feel like not only were Alice’s motives and actions justified, but that this idea of a mother’s love,” Oldroyd told Tudum, adding, “Everyone will understand, and hopefully everyone will support her.”

He also reflected on how he and his creative team were extremely careful in handling the story’s most extreme moments for both Anna and Alice.

“We wanted to make sure that it felt not only tastefully and sensitively done, but also that it would provide a clear motive for the audience,” he shared, explaining that he wanted the narrative to establish the character’s motivations so that the viewers fully understand her actions, rather than questioning or resisting the logic behind them.

Did His & Hers Creator Tease Possible Season 2?

While His & Hers Season 2 has yet to be renewed, comments from series creator William Oldroyd and stars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal offer some insight into what a potential second season could explore.

“That would be quite a lot for Jack to stomach,” Oldroyd told Tudum while reflecting on what would happen if Jack found out that Alice was the one who killed his sister, Zoe. “I wouldn’t want to be around for the family Christmas when Jack finds out that his mother-in-law killed his sister. That’s difficult,” he added.

Bernthal, who played Jack, echoed that sentiment, saying, “I don’t want Jack to find out,” while Thompson added, “Anna and Jack have another secret from each other.”

The series finale sees the couple reunite and resume life together as a seemingly happy family. However, in the final moments of the series, Anna learns that it was her mother, Alice, who murdered her former school friends, including Jack’s sister Zoe, and framed Catherine for the crimes.

While none of the cast or creators have explicitly mentioned a second season, Netflix could choose to extend the story beyond Alice Feeney’s novel, potentially following Anna and Jack as more secrets and lies unravel in future episodes.
