This post contains minor spoilers for Lord of Mysteries.
- Lord of Mysteries Is Overall Better Than Solo Leveling
In the last few years, Solo Leveling has become the quintessential action anime. It is fast-paced, has a ton of fights, and the animation quality is incredible. Solo Leveling has definitely set the bar high, and it’s extremely difficult for both new and old action series to match the level. However, an anime from the Summer 2025 lineup is proving that it can go shoulder to shoulder with Solo Leveling.
Lord of Mysteries Could End Up Being Better Than Solo Leveling
Lord of Mysteries Is Overall Better Than Solo Leveling
- Lord of Mysteries has a more rounded protagonist
- Lord of Mysteries side characters are better than Solo Leveling
Lord of Mysteries has only released three episodes so far, and all three of them have been outstanding in terms of quality. The main protagonist, Klein Moretti, might not have undergone the same level of growth as a fighter like Sung Jinwoo, but that doesn’t mean that the latter is superior.
In fact, Klein Moretti’s story feels much more refined and interesting. Instead of just leveling up and beating strong monsters in arcs, Klein Moretti has to deal with some problems that feel more humane. He has to struggle to get better, and he seems more reliant on others for help. Of course, it’s not Jinwoo’s fault that he became so overpowered so quickly, but it is detrimental to his depth as a character.
Aside from Klein Moretti, there are various other characters in Lord of Mysteries who have more oomph than the side characters from Solo Leveling. In fact, it’s one of the biggest downsides of Solo Leveling. Other than Sung Jinwoo, the characters in the anime do not come off as anything special. Of course, there are exceptions, such as Cha Hae-in, and Thomas Andre, but that’s not nearly enough. In comparison, Lord of Mysteries has Leonard, Amon, Roselle, Audrey, Derrick, Dwayne, and many others. These characters have much more depth, and it doesn’t feel like the author hasn’t paid much attention to the protagonist.
Lord of Mysteries Has More Aura Than Solo Leveling
One of the main things that fans love about Sung Jinwoo is that he emits a powerful aura that can stop enemies in their tracks. This particular quality also makes Sung Jinwoo look extremely cool. However, Lord of Mysteries and many characters in the story have the same quality. For starters, the Crunchyroll page for Lord of Mysteries feels elegant, and it gives off a cool vibe.
As the story progresses, Klein Moretti’s personality and aura also change. He becomes much calmer, and he is able to handle the most perilous situations effortlessly. Leonard Mitchell is another phenomenal character, who carries out dangerous missions with a smile on his face.
Lord of Mysteries Is Going To The Top
As previously stated, Lord of Mysteries has released just three episodes, but the reception that they have received has been phenomenal. On MyAnimeList, the anime has a rating of 8.66, which is higher than the first season of Solo Leveling. Lord of Mysteries also boasts a rating of 8.9 on IMDb, making it one of the highest-rated anime series on the platform. At this point, it’s quite obvious that the Lord of Mysteries will end up being a candidate for the Anime of the Year award. Once the season finishes, fans will get a better idea of how the show compares to other titles.
So far, the biggest problem with Lord of Mysteries has been the pacing of the first three episodes. Viewers have complained that the adaptation is going too quickly, but they don’t have to worry too much. In a recent interview, Cuttlefish spoke about the issue. He informed viewers that the decision about the pacing for the three episodes was made for the greater benefit of the anime. The studio wants to animate one of the biggest fights from the novel, which wouldn’t be possible without the fast pacing. Hopefully, the rest of the episodes will have a balanced pace, allowing fans to enjoy the anime without any problems.
