A Japanese content creator known as Zepa has died at the age of 26, with the news confirmed in a statement shared on social media.

Zepa, who built a following of around 1.4 million across her platforms, was known for her fashion content and livestreams. Her death was announced on X on April 6, though no cause has been made public.

The statement read: “Please accept my apologies for this sudden message. Zepa has passed away unexpectedly. I would like to apologise on her behalf for bringing you this news. The funeral was held privately with family members only. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness and support you showed her during her lifetime”.

Zepa built following through fashion and candid livestreams

Zepa gained popularity through videos focused on Jirai-kei fashion, a Japanese style centered on dark, hyper-girly outfits designed to appear both cute and dangerous.

Alongside fashion content, she regularly livestreamed drink taste tests and spoke openly about her personal struggles, including alcoholism and suicidal thoughts. She had also discussed family issues and experiences with online abuse.

Following the announcement, tributes quickly spread across social media, with fans sharing messages and memories of her content.

“Rest in peace,” one user wrote.

Another added: “She was one of my favorite Japanese content creators.”

Some users also reflected on her openness about personal challenges, with one comment reading: “She really tried to get over the alcohol, turned her problem into a way to spread alcoholism awareness and keep herself productive”.

Others expressed shock at her sudden passing, noting how recently she had been active online.
